Louisville RB Michael Dyer under zero-tolerance policy

By Chip Patterson | College Football/Basketball Writer

Former Auburn running back Michael Dyer will return to FBS football with Louisville in 2013, but he must follow a strict code of conduct in order to finish his eligibility with the Cardinals.

Charlie Strong said Monday that Dyer must sign a behavior contract and is subject to a zero-tolerance policy as conditions of joining the program.

"I can't change his past, but only hope to help build on his future," Strong said.

Dyer graduated from Arkansas Baptist College and announced his decision to join Louisville's program on Friday.

"I am ready to start a new chapter in my life," Dyer said in a prepared statement. "I have learned from my past and feel that Louisville is the best place to play the second half of my collegiate football career. I thank God for coach Strong's belief in me. I am not going to let him down."

Dyer first broke on to the scene during Auburn's BCS National Championship run in 2010, finishing the season as the Offensive MVP of the title game with 143 rushing yards. In two years at Auburn, Dyer rushed for 2,335 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Dyer left Auburn after the 2011 season following a suspension for failed drug tests. He then joined Gus Malzahn at Arkansas State, but never played a game after he was pulled over for speeding and police confiscated a gun in his trunk. After his dismissal from Arkansas State, Dyer enrolled at Arkansas Baptist College and finished his undergraduate degree.
