It wasn't quick. It wasn't easy. But the SEC has finally issued its 2014 football schedule.

Despite opposition from the likes of LSU, the league maintained its "6-1-1" format of six intra-divisional games, one permanent cross-division game, and one rotating cross-division game. The Tigers will continue to play Florida, Auburn will continue to play Georgia, etc.

The league did introduce two new permanent cross-division series: Arkansas vs. Missouri and Texas A&M vs. South Carolina, the latter of which will kick off the SEC season on Thursday, Aug. 28 in Columbia. That game will also be the first game aired live on the SEC Network.

The league's rotating cross-divisional slate is headlined by Florida coming to Tuscaloosa in Week 4. The other six games are South Carolina at Auburn, Georgia at Arkansas, Kentucky at LSU, Tennessee at Ole Miss, Vanderbilt at Mississippi State and Missouri at Texas A&M.

Also noteworthy is that the SEC has allowed Texas A&M to continue its tradition of playing on Thanskgiving night, with LSU -- arguably the Aggies' most traditional and most natural SEC rival -- scheduled to come to College Station Nov. 27.

In what will surely raise expectations of a move to a nine-game SEC schedule, a league-issued statement said the SEC will work towards establishing a consistent "scheduling format" beginning with the 2016 season -- likely meaning that the 2015 schedule will be a "bridge" schedule before the establishment of cross-division rotations.

“The SEC Presidents and Chancellors have committed to a review of football scheduling to be completed in time for preparation of the 2016 schedule,” Mike Slive said at the SEC spring meetings, per the statement. “The objective of this review is to develop a scheduling format for the 2016 season and beyond, which will be in the best interests of the conference.”
