Ohio State DB Najee Murray leaves team after suspension

By Chip Patterson | College Football/Basketball Writer

Defensive back Najee Murray has officially left the Ohio State football team, a school spokesman confirmed to the Cleveland Plain Dealer on Thursday night.

ElevenWarriors.com initially reported of Murray's departure in early August, but Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer only confirmed that the sophomore defensive back was indefinitely suspended. Murray has since asked to be released from his scholarship and the school granted his request.

Murray played in five of the first six games of the 2012 season as a true freshman, mostly on special teams, before suffering a season-ending knee injury in October. The Steubenville, Ohio native recorded three tackles in his brief Buckeye career.

Ohio State kicks off the 2013 season against Buffalo on Aug. 31.
