Pitt QB Tra'Von Chapman dismissed from the team

By Tom Fornelli | Staff Writer

Quarterback Tra'Von Chapman was a four-star member of Pittsburgh's 2013 recruiting class, but he'll never see the football field for the Panthers.

The school announced on Friday that Chapman had been dismissed from the team.

“We believe it is in everyone's best interest that Tra'Von pursue his academic and athletic careers at another institution,” said Pitt coach Paul Chryst in a statement. “We wish him the best.”

Chapman had been suspended indefinitely following an incident with a woman described as his ex-girlfriend in April.

Chapman was charged with assault and a count of unlawful restraint. He would plead guilty to a lesser charge of assault but still spent three days in jail over the summer after the judge suspended the final 87 days of his 90-day sentence.
