“I've been pleased with his progress,” said Colorado offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren. “Attending the Manning Academy in the summer was really big for him, being around some starters from around the country. You could tell his confidence was boosted from that. And being selected a captain by his teammates – that's as big an honor as you can have, in my opinion. It shows the confidence this team has in him.”
Wood transferred to Colorado from Texas before the 2011 season. A four-star member of Texas' 2010 class he was unable to make his way on to the field in Austin before deciding to transfer to Colorado.
While Wood did not start last season for the Buffaloes he did throw for 265 yards, a touchdown and four interceptions in limited time.
As for who will be Wood's backup in Boulder, that job will belong to true freshman Sefo Liufau. Liufau was the highest-rated member of Colorado's 2013 recruiting classes and has impressed coaches enough in camp this summer to earn the backup job. Junior college transfer Jordan Gehrke and redshirt sophomore Stevie Joe Dorman follow Liufau on the depth chart.
