A difficult start to the season for TCU has gotten even more difficult with the news that starting quarterback Casey Pachall could miss more than half the season with a broken arm.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Sunday that Pachall has suffered a fracture in his left forearm and underwent surgery Saturday afternoon. Though the break is in Pachall's non-throwing arm, the senior is expected to miss at least eight weeks with the injury.

That timetable could see him return to the field for the Frogs' Nov. 9 game against Iowa State.

Pachall will be replaced by Trevone Boykin, the sophomore who came on in relief of Pachall in each of the Frogs' first two games (a 37-27 loss to LSU and a 38-17 win over FCS Southeastern Louisiana). Boykin also replaced Pachall in October of the 2012 season after Pachall left the team to seek substance abuse treatment in the wake of an arrest on DUI charges.

Boykin led the Frogs to two second-half touchdowns vs. LSU and a 24-0 run against the Lions, breaking open what had been a 14-14 game when Pachall was injured late in the second quarter.

The Star-Telegram reported it was "unclear" if Pachall could pursue a medical redshirt and fifth year of eligiblity if he did not play again in 2013.
