Duke's 28-14 Week 2 win at Memphis came at a stiff price, as starting quarterback Anthony Boone suffered a broken collarbone and is out indefinitely.

Boone was injured on a run late in the second quarter. Blue Devils coach David Cutcliffe told reporters Sunday, including the Star-News, that the fracture was "not one that requires immediate surgery."

“What that means at this point I can't tell you," Cutcliffe said. "No time table involved. At this point Anthony is going to be listed as out indefinitely.”

The good news for Cutcliffe and the Blue Devils is that they have an experienced backup in junior Brandon Connette. A part-time "Wildcat" quarterback, tight end, and even running back in his first two seasons, Connette stepped in and showed he could be a typical Cutcliffe passing threat, completing 14-of-21 passes for 198 yards and the two fourth-quarter touchdowns that provided the margin of victory.

Still, the loss of Boone is a major one after the Weddington, N.C. native won the job in the offseason and was off to a hot start, completing 75 percent of his passes through the season's first six quarters and rushing for a pair of touchdowns, including a 23-yarder in Memphis.

Boone's injury (and the torn Achilles tendon suffered by redshirt freshman Thomas Sirk in the spring) will also force true freshman Parker Boehme in the backup's role.

The Blue Devils will open their 2013 ACC season at home against Georgia Tech Saturday.
