On Saturday night Southern California lost to Washington State for the first time since a 30-27 overtime loss in 2002. It was also the first time the Trojans had lost at home to the Cougars since 2000.

And it was not a pretty loss, as the Trojans managed only 193 yards of offense and the crowd at the Coliseum could be heard chanting "fire Lane Kiffin" during the game. Afterward, receiver, Marqise Lee, a captain of the team, said the team would hold a players-only meeting.

“We're not supposed to come in [Sunday] but we'll come in and talk about it as a team and go over the things we can improve on as a team without the coaches there,” Lee told reporters.

Now, some people may take this as a bad sign for Lane Kiffin and his future with the Trojans, but I don't believe that's the case. I think this is an instance of the players holding themselves accountable for their performance on Saturday night.

Lane Kiffin has his critics, and I'm often one of them, but USC's performance on Saturday night cannot be pinned on him and him alone. It was truly a team effort.
