Whatever the perspective of Nick Saban and the actual Crimson Tide, it's become clear that national championship or no national championship, Johnny Manziel and Texas A&M's victory in Tuscaloosa last season may have gotten just a bit under the skin of the Tide faithful.
The latest evidence arrives from Otey's Tavern in the Birmingham suburb of Mountain Brook, which al.com reports has had a sizable "Johnny Pinata" made. Patrons will be able to take a swing at the pinata during Wednesday night trivia, and possibly during the game on Saturday. Via Otey's Facebook page, a shot of the pinata:
As you can see, this is -- and I mean this sincerely -- some high-quality custom pinata work. But the portrait also isn't exactly flattering, what with the Sharpie, the money, and the dollar-sign jersey number. (Also, Johnny Pinata appears to have a curious case of chicken pox that has only attacked his face.) Why, you might deduce that the fols at Otey's aren't taking Manziel at his word when he said he didn't accept any compensation for his reported marathon autograph sessions.
Whether you find the pinata hilarious or a bit on the cruel side, one thing's for certain: come Saturday, the real Johnny Football and the Alabama faithful won't both have the last laugh.
