Ex-Vandy WR Tip McKenzie dismissed by Alcorn State

Former Vanderbilt player Jaborian "Tip" McKenzie wound up playing football at Alcorn State, and even participated in the Braves loss to Mississippi State in Week 2.

McKenzie, one of four former Commodores charged with five counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated sexual battery, was kicked off the Alcorn State team Thursday night.

"Alcorn failed to sufficiently examine the allegations against McKenzie before allowing him to participate in our football program," Alcorn State president M. Christopher Brown II said in the statement. "In an effort to provide educational opportunities to a southwest Mississippi student, Alcorn State University made an error in judgment."

McKenzie returned three kickoffs for 80 yards against the Bulldogs in a 51-7 loss, adding one reception for four yards. The story was first reported by The Nashville Post, picked up Thursday by several national outlets, including CBSSports.com.

Alcorn State coach Jay Hopson told the Associated Press that he believes the freshman wide receiver is "100 percent innocent" of the charges. McKenzie and three of his teammates were dismissed from school June 29 following the June 23 incident. He was indicted on Aug. 9 and released from jail Aug. 10 after posting $50,000 bond.

According to the Associated Press, McKenzie has a court date in Nashville on Oct. 16 for "discussions in the case."
