Tennessee QB Nate Peterman has surgery on hand

It appears Nathan Peterman's tenure as Tennessee's starting quarterback will be short-lived.

Tennessee named the redshirt freshman its starter for Saturday's loss to Florida, but Tennessee coach Butch Jones said on Monday that hand surgery is going to keep Peterman out for at least a month.

"As of right now, Justin Worley is the starter," Jones told reporters.

Worley was originally Tennessee's starter before losing his job to Peterman.

Peterman struggled mightily against Florida, completing only four of his 11 passes for five yards and two interceptions. Worley came on and performed better -- it would have been hard to do worse -- though he only completed 10 of his 23 passes for 149 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions of his own.

The good news for Worley and the Vols is that they won't have to face the Florida defense this week, as they'll welcome South Alabama to Knoxville. Which should provide them a chance to get things in order before Georgia comes to town the following week.
