Here's what we know about the Southern California coaching job at the moment: Lane Kiffin has been fired, Ed Orgeron is serving as the interim coach, and for the next few months there's going to be plenty of speculation about who USC's next coach will be.
Well, just because we're not likely to know who the next coach is for a while, that doesn't mean there isn't plenty of speculation already taking place, and according to Bovada the current favorite is former USC linebacker Jack Del Rio.
Here are the current odds Bovada released on Monday.
Jack Del Rio 3/1
Chris Petersen 5/1
James Franklin 5/1
Greg Roman 6/1
Clancy Pendergast 7/1
Jon Gruden 8/1
Steve Sarkisian 8/1
Kevin Sumlin 12/1
Herm Edwards 15/1
Ed Orgeron 20/1
Of all the names on that list Herm Edwards seems like the oddest choice considering it's been a quarter century since he last coached in college. Also, Jon Gruden is on the list because it's a college job and Jon Gruden has been rumored to take every college opening since like 1845.
As for when we're going to find out who the next USC coach actually is, I wouldn't expect to hear anything before January. Odds are the next coach currently has a job -- whether in college or the NFL -- and they won't be leaving their current gig until the season has ended.
