Saturday's Commander-in-Chief Trophy showdown between Air Force and Navy could be canceled due to the current shutdown of the United States government.

The Department of Defense announced Tuesday that it has suspended all intercollegiate athletic competitions at the service academies, meaning no practices for the football teams at Army, Navy and Air Force. The shutdown also has an impact on the sports information department, and all media availability scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled.

Service Academies FBS schedule: Week 6

Air Force at Navy, 11:30 a.m. ET Saturday

Army at Boston College, 1 p.m. ET Saturday

The Department of Defense release indicated that a decision will be made for Air Force-Navy by Thursday at noon, ET. Boston College athletic director Brad Bates indicated that the school is working to keep the game on the schedule.

"We have been in close communication with Army athletics officials regarding the potential impact of the government shutdown on this Saturday's football game," Bates said. "Obviously our intention is to exhaust all possibilities to play the game and we will communicate the information promptly as soon as we have resolution."

CBS is scheduled to air the first Commander-in-Chief Trophy game on Saturday morning. On Tuesday, a statement was released through a network spokesperson.

"We are prepared to cover the Air Force vs. Navy game on Saturday if it is played. We are working on alternate programming in the event the game is not played."
