It's not exactly a surprise considering that he took over as quarterback during Purdue's loss to Northern Illinois, but Purdue made things official on Wednesday naming Danny Etling its new starting quarterback.
What was somewhat surprising was the news that the man Etling is replacing, Rob Henry, will be making the move to safety.
Considering the the injuries that have hit Purdue's secondary, Henry may end up seeing time on the field at safety before this season is over.
As for Etling, it seems that coach Darrell Hazell has accepted the fact that the Boilermakers need to look toward the future because the present isn't too bright at the moment. Etling came on for Henry late in the first half on Saturday and completed only 19 of his 39 passes for 241 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Still, the coaching staff is high on the potential of Etling, and they've obviously decided now is the best time to begin trying to tap into that potential.
