Chuckie Keeton's season is over due to a knee injury suffered in the first quarter of Utah State's 31-14 loss to BYU on Friday night, Aggies coach Matt Wells announced on Saturday.

The school confirmed that Keeton tore both his ACL and MCL in his left knee. The 6-2, 200-pound quarterback from Houston is scheduled to have surgery next week, and the rehabilitation process is expected to last eight months.

"Very unfortunate situation for both Chuckie and our team," said Wells. "We've lost a great leader, great teammate and a very productive football player. I have all the confidence in the world in Chuckie, along with our doctors and staff that he will come back stronger than ever next season. As for the remainder of this season, we will regroup as a team and pick up the slack and continue to strive to compete for the Mountain West championship."

The Aggies' loss to BYU was their third of the season, but first by double-digits. Keeton has been the key cog in Utah State's offense, as made apparent by his 18 touchdown passes on the season -- ranking second among FBS quarterbacks heading into Saturday. The Aggies were unable to get into rhythm once Keeton went down, and it's concerning looking ahead to their meeting with Boise State next week.

Chuckie Keeton ranks among the Top 10 quarterbacks in the Class of 2015, but the junior is eligible for the 2014 NFL Draft. However, the comments from Wells suggest his return to the Aggies, not to mention the eight month absence would not give Keeton much of an opportunity to show-case his full skill set in the pre-draft evaluations.

The GIF below shows the play where Keeton sustained the season-ending injury.
