Oklahoma linebacker Corey Nelson likely out for season

The Oklahoma defense received bad news on Sunday when coach Bob Stoops confirmed that linebacker Corey Nelson had suffered a partially torn pectoral muscle during Saturday's win over TCU.

According to Stoops, Nelson is currently scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday and that surgery will likely keep him out for the rest of the season.

Which means that a Sooners defense currently ranked in the top ten nationally in total defense and scoring defense will be without its senior co-captain. An absence that could loom quite large once the Sooners get deeper into Big 12 play and have to face an offense like Baylor's, or even Texas next week.

Through five games this season Nelson had 27 tackles, three tackles for loss, an interception (which he returned 24 yards for a touchdown), a sack and four passes broken up.
