On the same day Michigan learned it would be without defensive tackle Ondre Pipkins for the rest of the season due to a torn ACL, Brady Hoke said the Wolverines defense could have a player return from an ACL injury.

Hoke told reporters on Monday that linebacker Jake Ryan, who tore his ACL in March, has been cleared to play by team doctors. Hoke also said that Ryan could "potentially play" in this week's game against Penn State.

However, it's not certain yet as Hoke went on to say he's still concerned about Ryan's knee holding up in a game.

"I'm probably more worried about it than anybody," said Hoke.

Getting Ryan back would be a big boost for a Michigan defense that is already ranked in the top 20 nationally in total defense and yards per play against. Ryan led the Wolverines in tackles last season with 88 and he also had 16 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and four forced fumbles.
