Florida State safety Tyler Hunter is out for the rest of the season

Florida State has lost starting safety Tyler Hunter for the rest of the season after Hunter underwent surgery to repair a bulging disk in his neck on Monday. Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher made it official on Tuesday.

"He will be out for the season, but he expects to make a full recovery," Fisher told reporters.

Hunter suffered the injury against Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 21, and although he left the field under his own power he experienced numbness in his hands afterward.

Hunter sent out this tweet following the surgery.

And while Hunter's health is the main priority here, Hunter's absence does pose a problem for the Seminoles this season. Losing your starting safety for the season is seldom a good thing, but it's even more problematic when you've got a game against Clemson looming on the schedule.

True freshman Jalen Ramsey has started the last two games in Hunter's absence and will likely continue in that role.
