Once the regular season comes to an end and the heads of coaches start to roll -- or continue to roll, really -- odds are that the name Art Briles is going to be on the lips of many athletic directors as potential replacements. And for good reason, as Briles has gone 22-8 in his past three seasons at Baylor, lighting up scoreboards along the way.
But Briles doesn't sound like a man that's looking to go anywhere.
During an interview with 105.3 The Fan this week Briles talked about the possibility of other schools contacting him and being at Baylor.
“The great thing about my situation is I don't really pay attention to anything," Briles said. It's a week-to-week job, and all I am trying to do is just stay focused on the task at hand -- nd that task is making Baylor the best it can be.
"I'm extremely happy here at Baylor ... We've got a good thing going and I can't see myself anywhere else."
Now, there are two ways you can take these quotes. If you're a Baylor fan you're taking them at their face value. He can't see himself anywhere else, therefore he isn't going anywhere else. If you're a fan of another team -- let's say, oh, I don't know, TEXAS -- you see these quotes and you quickly point out there have been plenty of coaches who've said similar things in the past before taking a new job.
At this point it's impossible to know what is in Briles' future, because he probably hasn't even thought all that much about it himself. His team is currently 4-0 on the season and has a legit shot at winning the Big 12 and possibly playing for a national championship.
All we do know right now is that Briles will continue to be a very popular man both in Waco and on campuses around the country the next few months.
