Jackson State announces cancelation of Grambling game

By Tom Fornelli | College Football Writer

This weekend's game between Grambling and Jackson State has been canceled. Jackson State officially announced the cancelation of its homecoming game on Friday evening after Grambling players refused to make the trip for the game.

It was first reported by's Brett McMurphy that Grambling football players decided not to play this weekend.

The Grambling players refusal to play the game is just the latest form of protest from the Grambling team. Earlier this week players left a meeting with the school president and athletic director after becoming frustrated with what president Frank Pogue was telling them.

Pogue fired coach Doug Williams only two weeks into the season and defensive line coach Ezil Bibbs a few weeks later.

After walking out on the meeting on Tuesday, the players did not show up to practice on Wednesday, and there was no practice on Thursday. Then, on Thursday night, the school fired interim coach George Ragsdale who had been named as interim coach to replace Doug Williams.

There is no word from Grambling on when or if its football team will resume practicing or playing this season.
