West Virginia finds no misconduct involving assistant

By Tom Fornelli | Staff Writer

West Virginia has found no misconduct or NCAA violations involving assistant coach Joe DeForest at West Virginia.

Although West Virginia did not mention DeForest by name, the school conducted its own investigation after DeForest was mentioned in Sports Illustrated's series on the Oklahoma State football program. Sports Illustrated reported that DeForest paid cash bonuses of up to $500 at Oklahoma State.

DeForest released a statement following the story denying the allegations.

DeForest served in multiple roles as an assistant at Oklahoma State from the 2001 season through 2011. He joined the West Virginia staff as its defensive coordinator in 2012 but has since been reassigned to special teams coordinator and associate head coach.
