Tommy Rees says he'll be ready to start this week

Notre Dame quarterback Tommy Rees doesn't have any doubts in his mind about whether or not he'll be able to play this weekend.

When asked if he'd be ready to start for the Irish against Air Force this weekend Rees answered "absolutely."

Rees left Notre Dame's win over USC in the third quarter with what was called a neck strain, but he was cleared to return to practice on Tuesday. While things have gone well in practice, Rees also said it's important he shows caution with the injury.

"Obviously any time you're dealing with a neck or something like that, it can get pretty testy, on what's going on," Rees said. "When it bends one way, it's not the most comfortable thing. You meet with the training staff, communicate what's going on and move forward from there."

Having Rees on the field would be important for the Irish, as the offense had a lot of trouble moving the ball against the Trojans defense after he was replaced by Andrew Hendrix, and the word trouble may be underselling it a bit.

In the six possessions without Rees the Notre Dame offense managed only 26 yards of offense while running 22 plays. Hendrix failed to complete any of his four pass attempts and rushed for only five yards on six carries.
