Florida State running back James Wilder Jr. has not been cleared to play and will miss Saturday's game against N.C. State, coach Jimbo Fisher said Thursday.

Wilder was considered "day-to-day" through the week after sustaining a concussion in the Seminoles statement win at Clemson last week. The win moved Florida State to No. 3 in the polls and positioned them No. 2 in the first BCS standings.

Wilder and fellow junior Devonta Freeman share the starting role officially, but a shoulder issue has limited Wilder's action and resulted in Freeman getting a heavier workload so far this season. Freeman will be backed up by Karlos Williams, who has six touchdowns and is averaging 8.48 yards per carry as a reserve.

The game will feature the return of legendary coach Bobby Bowden to Doak Campbell Stadium. The school is planning to honor Bowden along with at least 400 of his former players. Just before kickoff, Bowden will take part in the planting of Chief Osceola's spear.
