VIDEO: 4-foot-9 Rice walk-on gets first career carry

By Tom Fornelli | Staff Writer

That's Rice walk-on running back Jayson Carter getting the first carry of his career at Rice, after spending the previous three years as a member of the Owls' scout team. At 4-foot-9 Carter is the shortest player in the FBS.

“That young man is here ever day busting his tail on the scout team. He deserves it,” Rice coach David Bailiff said after the game. “I'm thrilled we got Jayson into a Division I football game.”

As for his Carter's teammates, while they're happy to see him get a chance to play in a game, they were a bit disappointed in the results.

"They asked me why I didn't score," said Carter.
