Western Connecticut RB Octavias McKoy sets NCAA rushing record

By Chip Patterson | College Football/Basketball Writer

A new all-division single-game NCAA record was set on Saturday, thanks to Division III Western Connecticut and running back Octavias McKoy.

McKoy carried the ball 43 times for 455 yards, topping the previous record of 441 yards, set in 1996 by Dante Brown of Division III Marietta. The Western Connecticut running back also scored five touchdowns on runs of 15, 1, 41, 53, and 71 yards in the Colonials' 55-35 win against Worcester State.

Four of the top five single-game rushing performances are from Division III, with North Carolina A&T (FCS) running back Maurice Hicks ranking third on that list with 437 yards rushing in 2001against Morgan State.

LaDanian Tomlinson still holds the FBS single-game rushing record, set at 406 yards when TCU faced UTEP in 1999.
