Miami and Florida State are both ranked in the top 10, but according to Las Vegas, the gulf between the teams is much larger.

CBSSports.com's Bruce Feldman pointed out on Twitter that the game opened with Florida State as a 21-point favorite, which is the largest point spread in history in a game featuring two top ten teams this late into the season.

And that point spread has gotten larger, by the way, as Florida State was currently a 22-point favorite at the time this post was published.

So why is Miami such a big underdog? Well, it's important to remember that while a point spread is somewhat indicative of the two teams playing, mostly they're just a representation of what Vegas thinks the spread would have to be to ensure equal betting on both sides of the line.

So while Florida State may not be 21-points better than Miami as far as the talent on each team is concerned, what the betting public has seen in recent weeks is Florida State win its last three games by a combined score of 163-31 while Miami struggled with Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Wake Forest.
