Anybody can put together a list of the best ten teams in the country, but figuring out the worst ten teams in the country is a lot more fun.

For the first time in the long history of The Best Worst Ten -- this is now the third week -- we've got two new teams entering the rankings, and to be honest, I'm surprised it took one of them this long to get here.

We also have a new team in the top two as Southern Miss took advantage of Miami (Ohio)'s bye week.

No. 10 Western Michigan 1-8 (Last week: 9)

Average Score: 15.3-36.7

Best Win: 31-30 at Massachusetts

Worst Loss: 27-23 vs. Nicholls State

Western Michigan was on a bye this week and it saw itself drop a spot because of it. That's because taking a week off is no way to prove you're the best at being bad. Hopefully this is a lesson for the Broncos.

Next Game: 11/9 at Eastern Michigan

No. 9 Florida International 1-7 (UR)

Average Score: 11.4-36.8

Best Win: 24-23 at Southern Miss

Worst Loss: 34-13 vs. Bethune-Cookman

Florida International makes its way into the top ten for the first time this season after suffering a 34-13 loss to East Carolina at home. It's only Ron Turner's first year with the Panthers, but you can't deny that firing Mario Cristobal has been the right move in helping FIU achieve its goal of getting to the bottom.

Next Game: 11/9 at Middle Tennessee

No. 8. Hawaii 0-8 (UR)

Average Score: 21.9-36.8

Best Win: None

Worst Loss: 31-9 at Nevada

Hawaii works its way back into the top ten after being left out last week, but as I said a few weeks ago, I don't actually believe this team to be one of the worst ten in the county. It's just that in the formula I use to rank teams wins and losses mean more than anything, and Hawaii just hasn't managed to win a game. One win could see them drop out of the top ten for the rest of the season.

Next Game: 11/9 at Navy

No. 7 Idaho 1-8 (8)

Average Score: 16.7-44.2

Best Win: 26-24 vs. Temple

Worst Loss: 42-10 at Wyoming

Now this is a team that knows how to get blown out, though I do have to question its commitment to excellence after scoring a late touchdown against Texas State on Saturday to cut the final deficit to only 16 points. It may not seem like much, but those are the kinds of mistakes that keep a team from climbing these rankings.

Next Game: 11/9 vs. Old Dominion

No. 6 New Mexico State 1-8 (7)

Average Score: 20.3-46.2

Best Win: 34-29 vs. Abilene Christian

Worst Loss: 66-17 at New Mexico

The Aggies were flirting with disaster for a while on Saturday. They led Louisiana-Lafayette 28-14 at halftime before getting their act together and being outscored 35-7 in the second half. Those second half adjustments helped the Aggies give up over 40 points for the seventh time this season and helped bump them up a spot to No. 6.

Next Game: 11/9 vs. Boston College

No. 5 Connecticut 0-7 (5)

Average Score: 16.4-35.1

Best Win: None

Worst Loss: 33-18 vs. Towson

UConn took the week off, but it will return to action on Friday night when Louisville comes to town. It'll be a tough game for the Huskies, because while it will no doubt lose, playing Louisville could hurt its strength of schedule.

Next Game: 11/8 vs. Louisville

No. 4 Eastern Michigan 1-8 (4)

Average Score: 19.3-45.6

Best Win: 34-24 vs. Howard

Worst Loss: 50-25 at Army

Don't look now but the Eagles have allowed 50 points or more in their last four games after falling to Toledo 55-16 on Saturday. This is a team that's really coming together at the right time as it looks to make a push for first place down the home stretch.

Next Game: 11/9 vs. Western Michigan

No. 3 Miami (Ohio) 0-8 (2)

Average Score: 10.9-32.5

Best Win: None

Worst Loss: 17-10 at UMass

Miami (Ohio) is the third team in this week's top ten who had a bye this week, but the Redhawks bye may have been the most costly of all. Last week they were sitting in second place but they saw themselves passed up while sitting on the couch this week. A loss to No. 10 Bowling Green on Tuesday night would be a big boost.

Next Game: 11/5 vs. Bowling Green

No. 2 Southern Mississippi 0-8 (3)

Average Score: 12.8-44.6

Best Win: None

Worst Loss: 24-23 vs. FIU

How do you make the jump to the top two? You give up 636 yards and commit 13 penalties while losing to Marshall 61-13, that's how. I've had a lot of people tell me that the Eagles should be No. 1, and if they keep playing like they did on Saturday, they just might get there.

Next Game: 11/9 at Louisiana Tech

No. 1 Georgia State 0-9 (1)

Average Score: 17.1-36.9

Best Win: None

Worst Loss: 42-14 vs. Chattanooga

As I said last week, it's going to be tough for anybody to catch Georgia state as long as the Panthers keep losing. The three losses to FCS teams will just be too much to overcome barring some epic failures elsewhere. And now, to make things even more difficult, the Panthers get a week off to prepare for their next loss against Louisiana-Lafayette.

Next Game : 11/16 vs. Louisiana-Lafayette

No Longer Ranked: Massachusetts, Temple
