Arizona State athletic director Steve Patterson has been hired to replace DeLoss Dodds at Texas, according to multiple reports on Tuesday.
Sports Illustrated and the Austin American-Statesman are just two of several outlets that began pointing to Patterson, not West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck, as the favorite for the Texas job in the morning. By midday, both outlets (along with several others) confirmed that the news was final.
Austin American-Statesman sports columnist Kirk Bohls tweeted the following:
Texas has hired Arizona State AD Steve Patterson, connected source says. Will make over $1 million.— kbohls (@kbohls) November 5, 2013
Texas source said AD Steve Patterson had "unanimous support" of committee, president Bill Powers.— kbohls (@kbohls) November 5, 2013
Patterson and Luck were reportedly the final two candidates for the job. Patterson received his undergraduate degree from Texas and both graduated from Texas' law school. While the Dallas Morning News reported that Luck as the front-runner over the weekend, something appears to have changed in Austin.
DeLoss Dodds will step down from his position at Texas' athletic director on August 31, 2014.
