Texas A&M has no plans to play Texas again

Texas A&M has no plans to play Texas again

From the sound of it, if you were hoping that you'd one day get to see Texas and Texas A&M playing against one another, it won't be happening during the regular season.

“We hope to play them again in a BCS or playoff game at some point,” Texas A&M associate athletic director Jason Cook told the San Antonio Express-News on Wednesday.

Which makes it sound like a regular season game just isn't an option at this point, as former A&M president R. Bowen Loftin said it would be two years ago when A&M announced it would be leaving the Big 12 for the SEC.

Texas A&M and Texas had traditionally played on Thanksgiving weekend, but next season the Aggies will begin playing LSU on either Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving weekend. Meanwhile Texas is scheduled to play Texas Tech on Thanksgiving this season and TCU in 2014.

And, really, this is the biggest drawback of conference realignment. As a college football fan the idea of Texas and Texas A&M never playing again during the regular season simply sucks. That being said, considering how Texas A&M has already changed its mind on this issue once, the idea of these two schools rekindling the rivalry at some point probably shouldn't be completely written off either.
