A Florida season defined by its plague of injuries will have to turn itself around in the face of yet another one, as the Gators announced Saturday that redshirt freshman Skyler Mornhinweg will start at South Carolina .

Starter Tyler Murphy will not be available after being unable to recover in time from a nagging shoulder injury re-aggravated in last week's loss to Vanderbilt.

Mornhinweg has never played in a college game. But if there's any silver lining, it's that Murphy had not practiced this week and his absence isn't coming as a surprise.

"We feel good about him moving forward and being ready to go," Muschamp said of Mornhinweg on his Thursday night radio show. "That's the way it's looking now."

Mornhinweg is the son of former Detroit Lions head coach Marty Mornhinweg.

Sitting at 4-5 and with a season finale vs. No. 2 Florida State, the Gators must win in Columbia to have any realistic chance of making a bowl game.
