UAB makes seating changes for Thursday night's game

On Thursday night UAB will host Rice in a nationally televised game on Fox Sports 1, and it appears the school wants to make sure it looks good doing so.

Which is why it issued a release on Thursday "encouraging" Blazer fans to sit on the east side of Legion Field during the game. The school will also move UAB's bench as well as the student section to the east side of the stadium so those fans can continue to sit behind the bench.

"We are hopeful of a good turnout for the Rice game," said UAB athletic director Brian Mackin in a release. "With the television broadcast of the game, we want to fill the east side of the stadium and are asking our fans to assist in this effort by sitting on the east side of Legion Field. It is our intent to present a positive image to all the viewers who will be watching that night."

In other words, UAB would prefer that the side of the stadium that television viewers will see isn't full of empty seats if it doesn't have to be, because it's the east side of the stadium that television cameras face.

Which, from a perception standpoint, makes sense. The stadium might not actually be full, but to those watching at home it will look that way.

It's an illusion, Michael!
