If Minnesota is going to bring Paul Bunyan's axe home this weekend, it'll have to do so without its leading receiver.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported on Friday that wide receiver Derrick Engel had suffered a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season, and bring an early end to his college career. Engel is currently listed as questionable on Minnesota's injury report and Jerry Kill would not go into specifics on Engel's injury.

Engel leads teh Gophers with 25 catches for 405 yards and five touchdowns this season. No other receiver on the Gophers has more than eight catches this season, and none have caught a touchdown. The team's second-leading receiver is tight end Maxx Williams.

Which means Isaac Fruechte, Drew Wolitarsky and Donovahn Jones will all need to step up against Wisconsin on Saturday.
