BCS eyeing Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Clemson, more for at-large bids

By Chip Patterson | College Football/Basketball Writer

Johnny Manziel's BCS dreams may be kept alive after all, as Texas A&M was listed as an official "team under consideration" for the 2013-14 Bowl Championship Series.

The qualifications for at-large selections can get confusing, so the annual release serves as a guide for fans wondering if their team is still in the hunt.

The easiest path to a BCS bowl is by winning the conference championship in an automatic qualifying league. The teams still in the running for those bids are:

American: UCF, Cincinnati, Louisville

ACC: Duke, Florida State , Georgia Tech , Miami , Virginia Tech

Big Ten: Michigan State , Ohio State

Big 12: Baylor, Oklahoma State , Texas

Pac-12: Arizona State , Stanford

SEC: Alabama, Auburn, Missouri, South Carolina

The next list includes teams that have fallen from conference title contention that are still in the BCS hunt. In order to be eligible for at-large consideration a team must win at least nine regular season games and rank in the Top 14 of the BCS standings.

Fresno State

Northern Illinois

Texas A&M

Fresno State and Northern Illinois are currently competing for the non-BCS automatic bid; which is reserved for a conference champion that ranks in the Top 16 of the final BCS standings and finishes ahead of a conference champion from an AQ league. Currently both teams are ahead of UCF (No. 19 in the most recent BCS standings), the projected champion from the American Athletic Conference.
