The home game Cal shifts to the new Levi's Stadium next season won't be The Game, but it will be a big, big game nonetheless.

The Bears announced Tuesday that their Friday night home game against Oregon, set for Oct. 24, 2014, will be played at the San Francisco 49ers' palatial new stadium in Santa Clara. The game will be the first college football game played in the venue.

“I know that our players will embrace the chance to play Oregon at Levi's Stadium next fall, and I'm sure our fans will create a great atmosphere for our team,” Cal head coach Sonny Dykes said in the announcement. “This is a special opportunity to play in a stadium where the Super Bowl will be held in the near future and one that we feel can generate a tremendous overall experience for everyone involved.”

That experience may be tremendous for the Bears' checkbook as well; per the announcement, Cal expects to collect as much as "a seven-figure dollar increase in incremental net revenue [i.e., $1 million] for the athletic department relative to a home game" in the Bears' newly-renovated Memorial Stadium.

According to the announcement, the Bears and athletic director Sandy Barbour were also concerned about how best to manage an on-campus weeknight home game, and now have until 2015 to develop the appropriate plans.

Reports in August stated that the Bears were on the verge of moving their annual rivalry grudge match with Stanford to Levi's Stadium, but those plans were vigorously opposed by many Bear supporters and never finalized.
