Dak Prescott leads Mississippi State to bowl eligibility in Egg Bowl win

By Chip Patterson | College Football/Basketball Writer

Mississippi State reclaimed the Golden Egg in dramatic fashion, putting a thrilling finish to an otherwise ugly game in the Bulldogs' 17-10 overtime win. The Bulldogs improve to 6-6 on the season, becoming bowl eligible for the fourth straight season under Dan Mullen.

Dak Prescott sat out the first three quarters of the game due to a lingering injury, but entered the game with 11 minutes left as Mississippi State trailed 10-7. Prescott completed 11 of 20 passes for 115 yards and ran 9 times for 29 yards and the game-winning touchdown in overtime.

It was a thrilling ending for Prescott, a player who has endured injuries and personal loss this season, but the game was a back-and-forth battle of punts (16) and turnovers (6) for most of regulation. After Prescott scored on the first possession of overtime, the game ended as Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace fumbled the ball into the end zone on the ensuing possession. It was not the best Egg Bowl for Wallace, who added three interceptions and just 182 passing yards on 40 attempts.
