Texas starting linebacker Steve Edmond suffered a lacerated liver in the Longhorns win against Texas Tech on Thursday. According to the school, he has been ruled out for the rest of the season and no timetable has been set for his return.

Edmond left the game in the second quarter after a hard hit on a block from Texas Tech wide receiver Eric Ward. The junior was escorted to locker room after the hit and did not return to the game.

Texas already lost defensive tackle Chris Whaley and linebacker Jordan Hicks to season-ending injuries, making Edmond's absence even more costly as the Longhorns prepare for their regular season finale at Baylor. Texas needs to knock off the Bears and get some help from Oklahoma to win its first Big 12 title since 2009.

Edmond leads the team in tackles (71) and has started at both MLB and WLB this season; moving to the weak side after Hicks' injury. Sophomores Dalton Santos and Peter Jinkens are expected to see even more action with him out of the lineup.
