The Southern Miss losing streak came to an end in the eleventh hour; as the Golden Eagles avoided back-to-back winless seasons with a 62-27 victory against UAB on Saturday.

Quarterback Nick Mullens completed 24 of 39 passes for 370 yards and five touchdowns, adding a score on the ground as Southern Miss blew the Blazers away in the second half. UAB held a 21-13 lead at halftime, but sputterd during a disastrous third quarter as the Golden Eagles recovered a fumble and ripped off four straight touchdown drives to take control of the game.

Southern Miss finished the year with season highs in points and total offense (472 yards), though the offensive performance fell short of the average UAB opponent. The Blazers entered the game giving up an average of 500.2 yards per game and allowing 7.25 yards per play -- No. 121 in FBS play.

The last Southern Miss victory came against Nevada in the Hawaii Bowl on Dec. 24, 2011; as Larry Fedora coached his last game before leaving to take over at North Carolina. That Golden Eagles team finished 12-2 and knocked off a Kevin Sumlin-led Houston team in the Conference USA Championship Game.
