Purifoy started 12 games for Florida as a sophomore in 2012, entered 2013 as a top NFL prospect and All-SEC candidate, and among several talented defensive backs helped the Gator secondary rank second in the FBS in pass defense entering their season finale vs. Florida State. The Gators also ranked No. 1 in the SEC in pass efficiency defense.
Though Purifoy largely lived up to that billing on the field, he also was the subject of several off-field headlines in 2013, having a marijuana possession charge dismissed in February, seeing time at wide receiver during the spring, then was suspended for the season opener for a violation of team rules. Purifoy also battled minor injuries during the season.
