Earlier this week Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel wrote that if the opportunity was offered to him, Auburn's Gus Malzahn should replace Mack Brown at Texas. Well, Auburn wanted to make sure that won't happen. reported on Friday night that Malzahn has received a new six-year extension from Auburn that will pay him $3.85 million in 2014, with a $250,000 raise each year after that.

Malzahn took over the Auburn program this season after Gene Chizik was fired following a 3-9 2012 that saw the Tigers go 0-8 in SEC play. Under Malzahn the Tigers finished the 2013 regular season with an 11-1 mark and 7-1 in the SEC, including a win over Alabama next week.

On Saturday Auburn will look to add an SEC title to Malzahn's resume when it faces Missouri in the SEC Championship. With a win the Tigers could possibly end up playing for a national title as well.
