Iowa All-Big Ten LT Brandon Scherff returning for 2014

By Chip Patterson | College Football/Basketball Writer

Iowa LT Brandon Scherff would likely be a high pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, but on Sunday the 6-foot-5, 315-pound All-Big Ten lineman confirmed his plans to stick around for his senior season.

According to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Scherff met with head coach Kirk Ferentz and offensive line coach Brian Ferentz on Sunday afternoon to discuss his future plans.

"I had an idea in my head before my family and I met with [the Ferentzes]," Scherff told KCRG on Monday. "That sealed the deal for me."

Scherff, ranked as the No. 7 offensive tackle in the 2014 draft class according to CBSSports.com's Prospect Rankings, is projected as a first- or second-round pick. He will take out an insurance policy for his senior season, but if he repeats his performance from 2013 he could likely end up as one of the first offensive tackles taken in the 2015 draft.

Iowa now has three returning starters on the offensive line for next season; Scherff, center Austin Blythe and guard Jordan Walsh. The Hawkeyes will look to record nine wins for the first time since 2009 in the Outback Bowl against LSU.
