The Baker Mayfield story was one of the better stories in college football this season, but it looks as though it won't be ending at Texas Tech. is reporting that Mayfield has informed Kliff Kingsbury and the Texas Tech staff that he'll be transferring. Mayfield confirmed his decision to Kingsbury on Wednesday, and while there's no indication where he will transfer, Mayfield told a television station in Austin that he was leaving due to a "miscommunication" with the coaching staff.

Mayfield first gained attention this year when he won the starting quarterback job in Lubbock despite the fact he was a true freshman walk-on. He would start eight games for the Red Raiders -- a knee injury against Kansas cost him three games -- throwing for a total of 2,315 yards, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

With Mayfield's departure, the starting job for Tech's bowl game will go to either Davis Webb or Michael Brewer. The Red Raiders play Arizona State in the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 30.
