TCU hires Houston assistant Doug Meacham as new OC

By Chip Patterson | College Football/Basketball Writer

Dough Meacham will be leaving Houston and taking over as TCU's offensive coordinator, the school announced on Thursday.

Meacham, a native of nearby Arlington, was the offensive coordinator and play-caller for the Cougars in 2013. Houston averaged 33.9 points per game and 5.78 yards per play under Meacham's direction, with freshman quarterback John O'Korn leading the offense during the Cougars' 8-4 debut in the American Athletic Conference.

Before arriving at Houston, Meacham spent eight seasons as an offensive assistant at Oklahoma State, his alma mater.

"Our goal is to remain a physical football team," TCU coach Gary Patterson said in a prepared statement. "Coach Meacham was part of an Oklahoma State system that was highly successful throwing the football, and he continued that in his one year at Houston. I'm real excited about the kind of person coach Meacham is and how well he fits our staff."

TCU has struggled with consistency on offense since Justin Fuente took the head coaching position at Memphis prior to the 2012 season. TCU's former co-offensive coordinators, Rusty Burns and Jarrett Anderson, have reportedly been offered other positions on the coaching staff. Burns also coached the quarterbacks this season while Anderson was in charge of the running backs.
