Arkansas State hires UNC OC Blake Anderson as next head coach

By Chip Patterson | Staff Writer

Arkansas State has hired its fifth head football coach in five years, naming Blake Anderson as the Red Wolves next coach on Thursday morning.

Anderson has been the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at North Carolina under Larry Fedora for the last two seasons, serving in the same capacity under Fedora at Southern Miss. The Tar Heels' offense set new school records in 2012 with 40.6 points per game and 485.6 yards per game.

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze took over the program from Steve Roberts after the 2010 season, beginning a three year run of bowl appearances and head coaches leaving for other jobs. After came Gus Malzahn and then Harsin. All three led the Red Wolves to a GoDaddy Bowl bid, and all three took head coaching jobs elsewhere following the regular season.

Arkansas State will play Ball State in the 2013 GoDaddy Bowl on Jan. 5. Check out the CBSSports.com preview for matchups to watch and game picks.
