Dismissed DL D.J. Pettway returning to Alabama after year of juco ball

By Chip Patterson | College Football/Basketball Writer

D.J. Pettway will return to Tuscaloosa less than a year after the defensive lineman was dismissed from the Alabama football team for his involvement in an on-campus robbery.

Pettway, currently enrolled at Eastern Mississippi Community College, signed his letter of intent to return to the Crimson Tide. Wednesday was the first day junior college players could sign letters of intent, and Pettway took to social media to announce the news.

Pettway was one of four players suspended indefinitely and ultimately dismissed from the school in February after facing charges of second-degree robbery following an on-campus incident. The 6-foot-2, 285-pound defensive lineman earned freshman All-SEC honors for the Tide during the BCS title run of 2012, and was allowed to follow the juco path back to Alabama after receiving youthful offender status for his legal issues.

Pettway had 11.5 sacks for Eastern Mississippi Community College in 2013 and was named a junior college All-American.
