The Wolverines starting quarterback was seen on crutches and in a walking boot on Monday, and head coach Brady Hoke said that freshman Shane Morris would start "if we were playing tonight."
"It's kind of day to day," Hoke said. "But right now if we were playing tonight he would not play. We're going into it that Shane will be the guy."
Gardner sustained the injury to his left foot during Michigan's loss to Ohio State in the regular-season finale. He has 2,960 passing yards and 483 rushing yards this season, ranking second in the Big Ten in total offense with 286.9 yards per game.
