UNLV WR Jerry Rice Jr. records first college TD in Heart of Dallas Bowl

By Chip Patterson | College Football/Basketball Writer

Jerry Rice Jr. recorded his first touchdown in reception in his final game of college football, pulling in a 13 yard pass from Caleb Herring in the fourth quarter of UNLV's 36-14 loss to North Texas in the Heart of Dallas Bowl.

Rice, son of NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice, transferred to UNLV after four years with UCLA. With one year of eligibility left, Rice was able to compete immediately after transferring during the 2013 offseason. The 5-11, 185 pound wide receiver finished the regular season with just 10 catches for 73 yards, failing to record a reception in six of the last seven games.

But Rice was able to find the end zone for the first time in his career as UNLV attempted to climb back into the game during the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for the Rebels, those efforts ended with a Caleb Herring interception and late touchdown run from North Texas running back Brelan Chancellor in the final minutes of the game.
