Trailing 21-3 and facing 4th and 4, Jimbo Fisher called a fake punt run (with backup running back Karlos Williams getting the carry) that went for seven yards.
Before the fake, Jameis Winston and the Seminoles offense had looked out of sorts for the entire second quarter. After the fake, the offense got into a rhythm and eventually Devonta Freeman capped a Winston-fueled drive with the Seminoles' first touchdown of the game.
"Well we had to [call the fake punt]. We lost momentum in the game and we had to gain it back," Jimbo Fisher explained to ESPN's Heather Cox at halftime. "We had to do something to make a change. Our kids are relaxed now and they're playing ball again, and that's just a matter of blocking, tackling, doing the things we do.
"Like I said, we're down 21-10 but I like where we're at. We got the ball coming out, we get some points and we're right back in this ball game."
