It's the year 2014, so you'd be forgiven for thinking Jay Leno's well-worn "Headlines" bit might have rode off into a peacock-colored sunset several years ago. Not so! The longtime "Tonight Show" host is still collecting the odd double-entendre and editing misstep for the nation's amusement, and a doozy from the Detroit Free-Press concerning Michigan tight end Jake Butt got its moment in the sun recently.
Via the Twitter feed for former Ann Arbor News reporter Antoine Pitts:
As of two hours ago, Butt's Twitter feed -- at the terrific handle "@JBooty_88" -- indicated he hadn't seen the story's 15-seconds-of-fame just yet, though teammate Michael Schofield has already tried to get the hashtag "#WeightGainHelpedButtStandOut" going, a decision we wholeheartedly endorse.
For his part, Free-Press reporter Everett Cook, whose byline is on the story, responded to Pitts' alert by calling Leno's attention "FANTASTIC." Which, incidentally, is precisely how we feel about the headline in question.
