Ladies and gentleman, forget doctors and lawyers, raise your children to be football coaches.
On Monday Texas regents approved the contract of new coach Charlie Strong. Strong's deal in Austin will see him paid $5 million in 2014, with a $100,000 raise each of the next four seasons. Which would bring the total value of Strong's five-year deal to $26 million.
There are also bonuses that Strong can earn to add to the value of his deal. Strong would receive an additional $100,000 for being named coach of the year, for every Big 12 title and for a berth in the national title game. Should he win that national title, Strong will receive a $250,000 bonus.
He can also earn a three percent bonus should Texas finish ranked in the top five, or a two percent bonus for a top-10 finish.
The only coach who will have a larger salary than Strong in 2014 will be Alabama's Nick Saban.
