QB Luke Del Rio transferring from Alabama

You can cross Luke Del Rio off the list of possible replacement for AJ McCarron next season. The quarterback -- and son of Jack Del Rio -- took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce that he was transferring from the school.

While there's no word on where Del Rio will transfer to, ESPN.com reports that Oregon State is a likely destination as Del Rio's father is close with Oregon State coach Mike Riley and the Beavers offered Luke a scholarship out of college. Instead he chose to walk on at Alabama.

As for the Tide, Del Rio's departure still leaves Alabama with five possible candidates for the job next fall.

Blake Sims was Alabama's primary backup in 2013, but Sims is seen as more of a running quarterback that might not fit into new offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin's offense. Behind Sims there was redshirt freshman Alec Morris as well as Cooper Bateman and Parker McLeod, both of whom redshirted the 2013 season. There is also incoming freshman David Cornwell, a four-star member of Alabama's 2014 recruiting class that is enrolling early in Tuscaloosa.
